Just lost your job? Just lost your health? Wealth? Great! (if you are interested in living an enlightening life!)

From the perspective of enlightenment,  these life circumstances are to most wonderful opportunities for us to expand our human potential.

How so you may ask? Well in that each one has now happened and we cannot reverse what happened, however we can create what we want from the incident.

Lets look at a simple incident.

You are on holiday in Europe, this is going to be the best holiday in years.

You have a rental car and are driving in the beautiful mountains of Switzerland. You make an error and the car hits the railing. Your car almost jumps the parapet and you end up with the car hanging off the edge of a cliff. You are all safe, but devastated, your holiday is wrecked.

The next day you have calmed down a little but complaining about the changes in plans. A week later the story is shared with friends, and a year later the story of your holiday crash is really fun to share with people.

So how do we go from devastated to happy? How long does it take?

It can take as long as a lifetime to get over something, or as little as a second. Each person responds differently based on their emotional intelligence and enlightening sophistication.

A popular misconception is that it takes 9 months to get over grief, but when we examine this closely we see that it not the time element that is the controlling factor in the recovery process, it is the ability to be present with what is and enjoy what is happening now rather than the constant repetition of past incidents.

One person can be scared of dogs for the rest of their life after a a dog growls at them at age 3, and another person can enjoy every moment in their wheelchair after being raped and beaten to broken spine paralysis.

It is not the quality or quantity of the incident that determines our response it is our ability to be with present with what is, and free of  those disabling thoughts such as “What if” “Why me?” “Poor me”

The beautiful thing is that the freedom that enlightening living brings is quite accessible to everyone on the planet.  This is evident in the truth that there are a variety of responses to any situation. So if one person can brush off challenging incidents and another person can suffer for the rest of their life over it indicates that we all have the ability to brush off, and live in an enlightening space!

Here is a video that speaks about Emotional Intelligence. Emotional Intelligence is not as advanced as the enlightened space described above, but it is a good beginning to get more understanding.
