enlightening meditation

This short fun meditation can take you into a deep calm clear space very rapidly. It is posted on Youtube for you to access easily. Suggest that before beginning you find a quiet place, sit comfortably and take a 5-10 long deep breaths to settle your body down.

The benefits of this simple meditation are that you quickly fall into a very quiet space in your thoughts. The whole idea is that by humming loudly there is no room for thoughts, as the noise of the humming literally drowns them out!!!

Let me lay out the steps again for you here.

  • Find a quiet place to sit
  • Turn off the cell phone and other distractions
  • Take 5-10 long breaths to  relax
  • Notice that as you take the breaths deeply into your body the belly moves. If the belly does not move breathe even deeper and feel the belly moving. This is a super important point, as when you are breathing deeply into your belly your whole body can relax. The cellular memory knows this type of breath from your childhood. You relax when you do this as a child does when they are at rest.
    • The sound you are going to make is as follows, the sound of the letter M.
    • You want to make this sound as loud as possible
    •  You want to make this sound as long as possible, including until you almost run out of breath.
  • As you make the sound you may find that your mind wanders into a thought such as “What will I have for supper tonight”
  • As soon as you find yourself thinking that thought, hum louder. Increase your hum to drown out the thought.
  • Constantly bring your focus during your hum to the sound and the vibration of the sound.
  • When you stop humming, sit in silence and enjoy the music.
  • Plan to sit for 3-5 minutes.
  • When you have completed your meditation check into your feelings and your body
    • Look for how calm your mind feels
    • Find out how quiet your body feels.
  • Thank yourself for taking the time to meditate and get calm
  • Decide when you are going to meditate next!

Having done this meditation,  I suggest that you plan on doing this everyday. When you are comfortable with this meditation I suggest that you plan on doing a longer meditation. There is a longer meditation here.

The next step for you could be to begin to visualize. There is a link to visualization here.
