Peace and Spiritual Enlightenment News!

September was Peace month, and  peace meditators all over the world are coming together in many forums and venues to meditate together for peace. they are joining with thousands of peace initiatives involving music, dancing, protesting, art, creative expression and many more.

The date for many of these events was September 21st, the Equinox.

Peace events have been happening on this date for the last 10-15 years and are building in momentum. You missed some great opportunities!

I was at a peace event in mid September on Mt Baldy in California. The peak is sacred to local native people. it rises to 10,000 ft above the San Fernando valley.

Leaders from over 40 different religious and meditative groups came together to create 3 events at different locations on the mountain for pilgrims with  different  hiking aspirations. The groups included: Tibetan Buddhist monks, other Buddhist groups, Hindu priests, Islamic representatives and many people from different interfaith groups.

I walked up the hill, helping one of the elders, a man in his late 80’s considered to be the grandfather of interfaith communication. He explained to me that at Harvard University in the 1950’s he learnt and discovered the value of experiencing the teachings of scriptures of different religions. He explained that as the different perspectives are taught and experienced they enrich the inner space of the listener, opening up new possibilities and experiences, expanding and bringing greater appreciation and fullness.

The equinox is the time of the year when the sun over the equator, so the whole world receives equal sunlight, 12 hours, and darkness, before the sun moves south, and the far north becomes darker,  and the far south much lighter.

Big news is that the peace event held by the Chopra Foundation broke the world record with 130,000 people attending. This goes in the Guinness Book of World Records as the biggest meditation event ever. Unfortunately I do not think that is entirely accurate, as in India I have attended Kumbha Mela events where the police have estimated crowds of up to 100 million people attending over a month long period, and high attendance days having over 5 million people attending to pray and meditate.

The big event on September 21st saw people from all over the world attending many hundreds of meditation and peace events.

You can read more here about these events:

UN Description of the event

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.

To mark the 30th anniversary of the General Assembly Declaration on the Right of Peoples to PeacePDF document, the theme of this year’s International Day of Peace is the “Right of Peoples to Peace”. This anniversary offers a unique opportunity to reaffirm the United Nations commitment to the purposes and principles upon which the Organization was founded. The Declaration on the Right of Peoples to Peace recognizes that the promotion of peace is vital for the full enjoyment of all human rights. Source

One of the more dynamic events was this one. I love this because it is organized by Mamas, and that force always brings men along with it. Secondly it is about movement, and that is great for shaking up the energy and causing bliss to emerge. Thirdly the group is about Peace.

A Million Mamas Movement Initiative, ThaPeaceMob is also part of the Compassion Games.

If you want to promote unity, peace, and compassion, then ThaPeaceMob is for you!
You can dance, shake, roll in a wheelchair, use a walker, clap your hands, or just bob your head.
It’s super easy to be a part of this global flash mob ~ a wave of rythym and movement in honor of global peace and compassion.

There is a video here about the next global peace meditation event on December 21st.
