Spiritual Enlightenment
What is Spiritual enlightenment and how is it different from enlightenment?
Enlightenment has a number of meanings, one of which is the state of spiritual enlightenment that I am teaching. Enlightenment does refer to events in history, a state of being and also the transfer of information to help a person develop understanding.
The events in history refer to the “Period of Enlightenment” which was in the late 17th century: Wikipedia describes it this way:
The Age of Enlightenment (or simply the Enlightenment or Age of Reason) was a cultural movement of intellectuals beginning in late 17th-century Europe emphasizing reason and individualism rather than tradition.[1] Its purpose was to reform society using reason, to challenge ideas grounded in tradition and faith, and to advance knowledge through the scientific method. It promoted scientific thought, skepticism, and intellectual interchange.[2] The Enlightenment was a revolution in human thought. This new way of thinking was that rational thought begins with clearly stated principles, uses correct logic to arrive at conclusions, tests the conclusions against evidence, and then revises the principles in the light of the evidence.
Enlightenment thinkers opposed superstition. Some Enlightenment thinkers collaborated with Enlightened despots, absolutist rulers who attempted to forcibly put some of the new ideas about government into practice. The ideas of the Enlightenment continue to exert significant influence on the culture, politics, and governments of the Western world.
Enlightenment then does also include the definition of spiritual enlightenment that I am about to share. For many people on a spiritual path it is assumed that the word enlightenment refers to spiritual enlightenment.
Spiritual enlightenment is for me a state of experiencing the spiritual essence of yourself, which from my experience is the space of constant joy, happiness and bliss. This state allows unconditional love to flow to all of humanity.
To really discover for yourself what is spiritual enlightenment you must begin the “quest” the search to find out what spiritual enlightenment is for you. As you begin this quest the most amazing life transformations become possible for you. Doors will open that you have not imagined.
You will be shocked!
In my own search to find out what is spiritual enlightenment I went to India and studied with Paramahamsa Nithyananda, an enlightened master from South India on and off for 7 years. In that time I saw the most amazing events happening, miracles so numerous that they numbered into the thousands, and incredible healing. I saw thousands of people wake up to their human potential to live spiritually enlightened lives.
My big take away from my time in India were are follows:
- It is your determination to answer the question “What is Spiritual Enlightenment” that is the most important key to success.
- That you must investigate what spiritual enlightenment is with clarity and wonder and curiosity and openness to really observe your personal possibility.
- Daily meditation is a core step to take
- Constant observation of our own humanness and habits is essential to discovering and unraveling who we are
- Time spent in India with an enlightened master can create the biggest, fastest shift in consciousness. I will share more about this in future posts
