Teachers

Teachers and teachings from around the world will be displayed here There are a number of teachers of enlightenment, coming from different traditions and no tradition at all. Most are dead, however their teachings are captured in words and audio and for some, video. Of the ones alive today I can recommend a number, some of whom I have met and others whose teachings I resonate with.

Of the dead teachers here are some of my favorites:

Osho Osho, the Indian saint who came to the west and lived in Oregon in the USA for some years. His teachings cover a vast plethora of topics, from the deepest esoteric teachings from various religions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Sufism, Sikhism and Jainism, to western swearwords. One of his most popular and well known discourses is on a swear word! He is certainly provocative and illuminating, and has contributed immensely to awakening millions of people to their potential. He was active during the 1970’s and 1980’s. He continues to be popular via his books and videos. His dynamic meditations are excellent and come highly recommended. I have enjoyed many many of his books, and “The Book of Secrets” is a great one. I plan to write a lot more about this remarkable teacher. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rajneesh

Paramahansa Yogananda Paramahamsa Yogananda, Another remarkable saint to came to the west to share teachings. He came to the west in 1936 and lived here for 15 years. He incorporated the mystical teachings of Christ into his sharing’s, as well as his extensive background in Hindu mysticism. His most well known contribution is the beautiful and awe inspiring book “Autobiography of a Yogi” He has centers in many cities that continue to teach his meditation techniques. Living Teachers

Paramahamsa Nithyananda Paramahamsa Nithyananda, This young, 37 year old from South India is the biggest hit on YouTube, with over 16 million views of thousands of hours of enlightening video. His teachings take from many spiritual traditions, and are firmly rooted in the Hindu tradition. He offers hundreds of books and meditations for free. My favorite book is “Guaranteed Solutions”. His most powerful course is called Inner Awakening and takes place in India. I have studied with him for 8 years and had huge breakthroughs in that time. I can relate of stories of thousands of  extraordinary and mind blowing miracles and healings happening in his presence. I highly recommend spending time with him. Amritanandamayi Amma- The Hugging Saint, Amma or Amritanandamayi is another South Indian saint who is known worldwide for her love, compassion and her hug. In her unusual childhood she was discovered to have healing powers and a magical effect on people, and now she will have  many thousands of people coming to her on a daily basis for a hug. She does not just hug, she also runs huge orphanages and hospitals and offers courses in meditation. She does not offer a structured course like Nithyananda or other teachers do, but I recommend being in her presence, because what she illustrates on a moment by moment basis is all our potential, to radiate love like she does. So see her and intend to emulate her and see what happens next!

Byron Katie

Byron Katie describes her technique of self-inquiry as ‘The Work’ and promotes the concept that we can liberate ourselves from suffering by not believing/listening to unfavorable thoughts. She has actually conquered fear, suicidal thoughts and serious depression using these “Work” methods . In addition to her bestselling books, she teaches her techniques at complimentary public events, in prisons, and to the needy in many formal settings. I have found that her 4 question process creates remarkable clarity and freedom in fast, fun and direct ways. The books are great reading, and I really enjoy “A Thousand Names for Joy”.
